The dawn of a New Year is a time to figuratively start over and create the best year possible but those of us who struggle with migraine may have to adapt our lives a bit more to accomplish our goals.
Below is a list of great New Year’s resolutions that can improve the life of a migraineur.
1. Get more sleep.
Anyone who battles migraines will tell you that adequate sleep is essential for your overall health. Practicing healthy sleep habits and resting when you are tired are helpful ways to prevent migraine attacks.
2. Eat Right.
Avoiding migraine triggering foods and not skipping meals are great ways to practice good eating habits. Unstable blood sugar levels can cause migraines, so it is important to eat regularly and not fast to prevent migraines. Keeping a food diary can be helpful as well when it comes to monitoring your food triggers.
3. Keep a Schedule.
Research suggests that keeping a regular daily schedule can help migraineurs manage their symptoms better. Simple changes like laying down for bed and waking at the same time and eating on a schedule are great ways to implement healthy lifestyle adaptations.
4. Track your Symptoms.
Keeping a health log journal (such as this one I’ve written) and tracking your symptoms, triggers, and lifestyle will help you pin point what helps and hurts your health. It is also a great way to check your progress and keep track of memories for years to come.
5. Make Self-Care a Priority.
Self-care is not selfish! Taking care of yourself is an important part of managing any health issue and creating the best quality of life possible.
Your life is made up of the choices you make and choosing the healthiest options you can will help you find quality of life. You may not be able to control your illness or migraines completely, but you can do your best to prevent them and enjoy life as much as possible.
This is your life! This is your health! This is your New Year. Take control by taking control of yourself. You are worth it!
