My Mantra: “I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it.” – Maya Angelou
Hi, I’m Jamie! I’m a new writer for the Migraine Mantras, but not new to the migraine community itself. I run a migraine-focused Instagram account called The Girl With The Migraines advocating for chronic migraines and documenting my day to day life.
I’ve lived with chronic migraines for about 7 years. They occur 2-5 days per week and last anywhere from 2-48 hours. I prefer to treat them with holistic healing and self-care routines such as meditation, yoga, chiropractic care, and essential and CBD oils. However, I still take preventative and abortive medications, as well as medication for mental health issues, GI problems, and muscle spasms.
I’m 21 years old and from Indianapolis, IN, where I attend IUPUI and study neuropsychology. I work at a pharmacy where I’m able to learn even more about neuropharmacology. In my free time, I love to care for my pets (two Jack Russells, a frog, a fish, and a crayfish), watercolor paint, and grow succulents.
Despite having chronic migraines for several years, I only recently became passionate about advocating for myself and everyone else in the migraine community. Being a full-time college student and having a part-time job doesn’t leave much time for chronic migraines!
My frustration in this was my inspiration for becoming an advocate. I love educating non-sufferers on how debilitating migraines are and how to empathize with those who are affected, as well as educating and sharing my personal experiences with my fellow migraineurs! So much of what I’ve learned about how to care for migraines has come from speaking with others like myself. I’m thrilled to be able to share some of this valuable information with you all!
