My Mantra: “Life may be difficult right now, but I will get through this.”

Hi friends, my name is Sarah and I am 25 years old. I am from Orlando, Florida and I have a condition called Spina Bifida which is a birth defect in which the bones of the spine don’t form properly around part of the spinal cord.

Spina Bifida can either be very severe or very mild. I have many physical challenges because I need crutches to get around, but I also suffer from headaches that your average Tylenol won’t cure.

When I was born I was diagnosed with a condition called Hydrocephalus which is a build-up of cerebrospinal fluid (also called CSF), around the brain. CSF is supposed to protect the brain and spinal cord but when there is too much fluid it can be dangerous and must be treated!

Dealing with these unbearable, unpredictable headaches can be frustrating but finding a community that goes through similar problems has helped me get through it!

Pilates helps me relieve stress and sometimes lessens my headaches so that is always my go-to thing when I have a headache!

Finding something that lessens my headaches can sometimes be difficult that is why I love learning from others. Joining a community like Migraine Mantras has helped me get tips from others who also suffer from, migraines or headaches.

Sometimes no matter what I try my headaches will not go away but writing helps relieve my headaches from time to time. When I am very emotional and stressed I will get a headache but writing helps get out those feelings.

I also have a personal blog called “Living with Disability.” You can visit here!
